Silver Pendant Making Workshop
- Working with our silversmith Kate to create a silver pendant
Who is this course for?
In this pendant making workshop you will produce a copper or sterling silver pendant. Under guidance of silversmith Kate Hunter-Parker, you will design your own pendant, and transfer this design onto metal. You will then use the traditional silversmithing techniques of cutting, annealing, and adding texture to bring your design to life. You will form and solder a jumpring. You will then clean up and polish your piece.
This workshop is a great introduction to silversmithing and you will learn lots of new skills and use a wide range of tools.
All the copper sheet and wire you need is included in the cost of the workshop. Should you wish to complete your final piece in sterling silver, this can be purchased on the day at an additional cost (approx £15, depending on current market prices). A sterling silver chain to finish your pendant is also included.
This is a 4 hour course suitable for all learners but some dexterity would be a benefit.
What does the course cover?
This course will guide you through the steps of forming a copper or sterling silver pendant. You will learn how to create a design, transfer this to metal. You will learn how to use a piercing saw to cut out your unique design, You will learn how to anneal your metal, this is the method of making the metal malleable to be able to add a texture or design. You will be forming a jumpring and soldering it. Once this is complete you will be cleaning up your design and polishing it.
What is included in the fee?
The fee includes tuition, the use of tools and equipment and all the materials to make a copper pendant and a silver chain. If you want to make your pendant in silver there will be an additional charge of approx £15 dependanting on the current market price.
There is a maximum of 6 students per class to ensure individual attention.
What do I need to bring?

All our classes are for age 16 and over, unless otherwise specified.
Course terms and conditions:
COVID - We have limited the numbers attending each class. You will be required to wear a face covering throughout the class if requested by the tutor. You will be provided with your own set of tools and equipment and asked to remain within your allocated space at the workbench. The work area and tools are cleaned between classes. Toilet facilities are available. You may bring your own drinks as we will not be able to provide refreshments, all cups and containers must be enclosed wth a lid. Food is not permitted. You will be asked to complete a Covid self assessment form prior to coming to the class.
If you are experiencing any symptoms of Covid or are subject to quarantine/isolation restrictions please do not attend. A full refund will be given under these circumstances, however, cancellation for these reasons within 5 days prior to your class will not receive a refund (unless the place for this class can be resold), in these circumstances your item will be made for you and sent to you by post.
In the event of a course being cancelled by The GlassHouse a full refund will be issued.
For cancellations by the student 4 weeks in advance we offer a full refund.
For cancellations of 4 weeks or less we are unable to offer a refund or date change on class places.
However, if we are able to re-sell your place a refund in full will be made at all times.
